Visitors

We do not share or disclose your name (as a site visitor) with anyone. We do not obtain personal information from you when you visit our site unless you volunteer it. We do collect general information for site improvement, which may include: Internet address of the computer being used, web pages requested, network software access, referring web page, browser used, date, time and duration of activity, passwords and accounts accessed, and volume of data storage and transfers. We may place cookies on your computer for facilitating your next visit in reference to past visits.

Gathering of Personally-Identifying Information

Certain visitors to this website may choose to interact with it in ways that require us to gather personally-identifying information. The amount and type of information that we gather depends on the nature of the interaction.

Examples:

  • We require users of our email contact forms to supply us with their name and an email address.  This is so that we can reply to their request for information.  Use of the contact form acknowledges that the information the user provides will be scanned in accordance with the privacy policy of the anti-Spam service provided by Mollom (http://mollom.com/web-service-privacy-policy).
  • Users who choose to register for specific events on our site will be requested to provide information that may include:  first and last name, email, department affiliation, and possibly some brief background information regarding their research interests or expectations from the event.  This information is collected to allow the organizers to contact interested parties by email, to obtain a “head count” for an event, and to possibly tailor the event to the stated needs of the registrants.  This information will only be available to authorized users on this site, which includes most of the people listed on the site.
    • NOTE: If an event is sponsored by an equipment vendor, we will not directly provide the vendor representative(s) with a list of the emails obtained through event registration (unless we request permission to do this at the time of registration).  Please be aware that due to the non-private nature of email communication, it is possible that a vendor representative may obtain this list through indirect means.
    • STUDENTS: While we respect your privacy and are aware of the FERPA regulations (http://www.registrar.arizona.edu/personal-information/family-educational-rights-and-privacy-act-1974-ferpa), the kind of information we are requesting falls under the “directory information” exclusion of this act.

We do not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described above.  Visitors are not required to supply personally-identifying information, except in the instances described above.

Aggregated Statistics

We may collect statistics about the behavior of visitors to this website. This information will only be available to the site administrators, the steering committee, and (if requested) University Administrators.

Cookies

A cookie is a string of information that a website stores on a visitor’s computer, and that the visitor’s browser provides to the website each time the visitor returns. We may use cookies to help us identify and track visitors, and their website access preferences. Visitors who do not wish to have cookies placed on their computers should set their browsers to refuse cookies before using this website.

Privacy Policy Changes

Although most changes are likely to be minor we may change our Privacy Policy from time to time, and at our discretion (or under the guidance of the University’s administration). We encourage visitors to frequently check this page for any changes to its Privacy Policy. Your continued use of this site after any change in this Privacy Policy will constitute your acceptance of such change.
