FRET, FLIM & Metabolic Imaging workshop (Charlottesville, VA) June 9-13, 2025

Registration is open for the 22nd Annual Workshop (in person) on FRET, FLIM, and Metabolic Imaging Microscopy, June 9-13, 2025.

The W.M. Keck Center for Cellular Imaging, a University of Virginia Imaging Center is sponsoring an advanced hands-on training course on fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET), fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIM), and Metabolic Imaging (NADH/FAD/Tryptophan). In metabolic imaging (hands-on training), the focus will be on the fluorescence lifetime redox ratio (FLIRR), a novel metric to investigate both, mitochondrial OXPHOS and cytosolic glycolysis and quantitative data analysis.

  • Hands-on instruction and training on confocal, Spectral, lifetime (FLIM) FRET, and Metabolic imaging (FLIRR) Microscopy systems.
  • Discussion on best FLIM, FRET, and metabolic imaging (FLIRR) and data analysis solutions.
  • Personal attention for a maximum of 20 participants.

  • Individual problem solving.
    • For attendees to experience an advanced practical course on Förster (fluorescence) resonance energy transfer FRET) and fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIM) microscopy to image the protein-protein interactions.
    • In metabolic imaging, the focus will be on the fluorescence lifetime redox ratio (FLIRR), a novel metric to investigate both, mitochondrial OXPHOS and cytosolic glycolysis, accompanied by a quantitative analysis package which attendees will be trained on at the workshop.
    • Brief introductions to the principles of fluorescence, microscopy, fluorophores, FRET, FLIM, and NADH/FAD/Tryptophan will be made. Emphasis will be on practical aspects, hands-on individual instruction at the instruments followed by data analysis and interpretation.
    • Problem-solving discussions will address questions of fluorophore choices, the most suitable systems to achieve specific research objectives, qualitative vs. quantitative analysis and much more. Introduction for a unique image processing and analysis software for FRET (PFRET), FLIM, and FLIRR will be given for training.
    • Live-cell specimens provided; participant's own specimens are welcome.
