This is a work in progress...
UPDATED 11/22/2022
STRUCTURE/TAXONOMIES - I don't claim to be an expert on how to best use taxonomies, but this is how I am using them on the Microscopy Alliance. Please note that I am currently adding tags as they occur to me, I don't have these fully populated yet.
- Event Categories - This might include things like course announcements, workshops, seminars, open houses, and on-site demonstrations. Not currently using this, but I might in the future for locally occurring events.
- MA page type - a specific taxonomy for this website. I am mainly using it to tag pages that are Core home pages, Equipment - microscopes, Equipment - other or Did You Know that? so that they can be appropriately filtered into VIEWS. I don't expect to need other tags. Untagged page content is just a "page". Must be selected on each page, otherwise the VIEWS don't work.
- MA_Equipment_functional_TAGS - a specific taxonomy for this website. This taxonomy is similar to the tagging that is done on the old MA website. This taxonomy is less structured than the old one, and is currently organized into three major groups (OPTICAL MICROSCOPES, ELECTRON/BEAM/FORCE MICROSCOPES, OTHER EQUIPMENT) within this one. I'm not 100% sure if this needs to be in one group, or perhaps broken out into three separate taxonomies. If Equipment or a Core's home page (Person?) this needs to be selected.
- MA_Location_TAGS - a specific taxonomy for this website. This would be the building names. In the taxonomy term I have included a building link using the UA campus map (https://map.arizona.edu/). I'm not sure if this is helpful, but I can figure that out later. Cores & Equipment (Persons?) should use this tag.
- News Tags - I have added some tags here for common news types that we have seen before. News items should be tagged, although I am not using these for any views at this time.
- Page Categories - used to Tag DYKT? content
- Person Categories - not being used, mainly because I needed categories that would work on all content, not just this one type.
- Person Categories (Secondary) - only using Director, Manager, Staff as a way to sort VIEWS such that the leadership comes out at the top of the list. These do display on the Person content type.
- Tags - used to tag home page slide show images, and the core names. Core name tags are essential for grouping things by core.
Custom block
- Text with background
- Color = Chili (will force the text inside to be white, no need to style the text color)
- Background pattern = triangles right
- Space around content = 1 (0.25rem) | ~4px
- Additional options - bottom spacing = 4 (1.5rem) | ~24px
- Core name is bold, paragraph format is HEADING 3, Style is UPPER CASE TEXT
- Menu is offset by two spaces from the left edge then: HOME | EQUIPMENT | STAFF | RESOURCES (with two spaces before and after the pipe character)
Block should be configured to appear at the top of all pages/content related the specific core.
Core's Banner (block) is configured as above.
Text - This section is descriptive about the core. Doesn't need to be fancy. I am trying to remember to bold the first mention of the core's name.
Accordion - currently Location, Acknowledging the core, and Web links. Doesn't have to be just these items, but probably shouldn't get too elaborate.
View - table with staff contact information. Sorted so the core leader is at the top.
Text with background - The beige footer to acknowledge who administers the core.
- Background color = warm gray
- Background pattern = none
- Space around content = 2 (0.5rem) | ~8px
- Additional options - bottom spacing = 4 (1.5rem) | ~24px
- Text is a variation of "This facility is administered by the Core Facilities department of the Office for Research and Partnerships at the University of Arizona."
- Image should be a transparent PNG/GIF that should be ~350 pixels wide. It should be inserted (see SOURCE) above the text, set for natural size and aligned to the right.
NOTE: with each of these sections, the "additional options" should be set to bottom spacing = 4 (1.5rem) | ~24px. That gives everything a bit of white space.
Taxonomies:
- Page TAGS - if the core's name isn't here, needs to be added in the appropriate taxonomy.
- Building - if it's not available on the list, it needs to be added.
- Capabilities - Select the types of functions that the core's equipment provides.
- Page type - choose Core Facility
Core's Banner (block) is configured as above.
Text section:
- Image - use the small size (360px wide), align right, image should be inserted (see SOURCE) above the text
- Equipment name - Title case, bold, HEADING 4, style is Azurite color
- Descriptive text

Categories (Taxonomy)
- Secondary - choose one of Director, Manager, Staff
- Field (Page) TAGS - if the core's name isn't here, needs to be added in the appropriate taxonomy.

Links - optional
Biography - helpful and encouraged. Doesn't need to be long.
